Cost of bridge, viaduct estimated at $1.2 billion

The fourth bridge over the Panama Canal project has begun to take shape.

An inter-agency Executive Committee has been formed to study the project, which will include a viaduct that will be located north of the Bridge of the Americas.
Its cost is estimated at $1.2 billion, but its final price depends on the architectural design and the project management, which is to be tendered in 60 days.

Minister of Public Works Ramón Arosemena explained that the bridge will be six lanes for vehicles and include two lanes for Metro trains. It will be a cable-stayed design and will start in conjunction with line 3 of the Metro.

The approximate cost lines 2 and 3 of the Metro will be $5 billion, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
